Monotype in Mazatlán The 5 day workshops will use oil-based techniques using a Griffin III etching press, (37 x 52 press bed). Artists will pull professional quality prints in a range of techniques. When possible, non-toxic materials will be substituted for solvents and health issues will be stressed. Glen gives individual attention to each artist, guiding them in the technique that suits their vision. Although the workshop is geared towards the experienced artist, monotype is an easily accessible medium for all levels. The studio, located in the heart of the Centro Historico District, is 1 ˝ blocks from Olas Altas Beach and a short walk to the Plaza Machado – a lively plaza with outdoor cafes and music. Other activities in the area include yoga, massage & spa facilities, great seafood, and shopping. The perfect art vacation! Dates:
If you want to form your own group and choose different dates, I will try to accommodate. Workshops will hold 6 to 8 students. Cost: US Phone: 510-499-4870 “Glen brought out the best from a group of artists with widely varied backgrounds. Her range of knowledge and experience is stimulating without being daunting to even beginners. And with old town Mazatlan for a backdrop to her beautiful studio, inspiration was everywhere. I’d go back in a heartbeat!” Sidney Brinn
I’ve taken many printmaking workshops, some good, some okay,
some lousy. My personal gauge for evaluating printmaking workshops is a
combination of efficiency and effectiveness. I want to MAKE art, not talk about
how to make it. Glen’s workshop, “Monotype in Mazatlan”, was FANTASTIC!
Hands down the best! Glen worked with each participant to help bring out the
best of our own intentions, and those intentions were as varied and as
individual as you can image. Her experience as a master printer and teacher was
always evident: she knows how to encourage, facilitate, and assist each person.
Her house and studio is comfortable, capacious, and welcoming, showing her
native Southern hospitality. Everyday we ordered lunch in so we didn’t waste
time waiting for food. Her demos were informative, clear, and stimulating. I
loved learning her dry point method and used it in 7 of my 9 full size monotypes
and monoprints. There were many, many other things I loved about my stay in
Mazatlan (walking the Centro Historico, swimming, yoga, and everything Mexican!)
I can’t wait to go back!
