Monotype in Mazatlan Print Workshop

The Perfect Art Vacation!

May 8 - 14, 2019

Explore your creativity against the backdrop of this historical city on the Sea of Cortez.

Get creative in this beautiful historic city on the Sea of Cortez! Includes a 4 day monotype printing workshop, an excursion to Stone Island (beach palapas!) and to Las Labradas - an incredible archeological site where petroglyphs are carved into boulders at water's edge.

Suitable for beginners to advanced, artists will pull professional quality prints in a range of techniques.  The workshop begins with a series of demonstrations and then everyone is quickly set-up to begin their work. Glen gives individual attention to each artist, guiding them in the process that suits their vision.

The studio is situated on the top floor of a turn of the century renovated home in the heart of the Historic District. It has1150 square feet of work space, light and airy with 15 foot ceilings and is air conditioned in the summer. The studio is professionally equipped with a Griffin series 3 etching press. Participants enjoy lunch on the garden patio below. The studio, centrally located in the Old Town, is 2 blocks from Olas Altas Beach, and within walking distance of the Plaza Machado with outdoor cafes, the Mercado, the Museum of Art, and shops.

Cost: $650 USD includes all printmaking supplies and lunch on the garden patio.  â€‹Does not include airfare or accommodations. (I can send you my recommendations.)

What is a monotype print? Monotype (or monoprint) is a one of a kind print made by painting or drawing on an acrylic plate. It is then run thru the etching press with a damp sheet of paper, transferring the image to paper. Often called the “painterly print”, monotype is a perfect process to explore your creativity or to expand on your current creative process. The medium supports everything from fine detailed, traditional styles to looser, free abstractions. Artists often use multiple runs thru the press to develop a richness and depth in the work.

Testimonials:

I'd just like to thank you for yet another wonderful art vacation! The trips you put together are always a mix of a great group of people, the perfect amount of studio time with great instruction, fabulous opportunities to see artisans working at their craft, beautiful museum and gallery visits, and trips to historic sites. Those things combined with delicious food and wonderful accommodations make the trips you offer my favorites, and keep me returning for another really special
art experience! Thank you!

Spending time with Glen Rogers at her monoprint studio in Mazatlan was an incredible opportunity to refuel the creative spirit within. Glen embodies a gentleness and conciseness in her teaching that is first-class. If you are looking for an art vacation, this is the one to take!

I brought seven printmakers from the U.S.to Glen's January workshop. Some of the participants were professional printmakers, others had far less experience. The workshop was a great success! Glen engaged everyone, giving all participants what they needed. Glen's studio is in a beautiful part of a wonderful town. The environment is very inspirational. Glen was a marvelous guide to the area, and helped everyone to have  a very productive workshop and a fabulous vacation at the same time.

"We had booked Glen's monotype printing workshop in the middle of our holiday to Mazatlan as we were looking for an experience that would take us outside of our day to day routine and we couldn’t have found a better place to experience this.

The atmosphere Glen creates in her workshop is gentle, stress free, supportive and wholly creative.  Located in the middle of Centro Historico close to all of the amenities necessary and surrounded by the rich architecture and atmosphere of the old city, the working studio is a warm and welcoming space. After laying out the basic rules, Glen encouraged us to experiment, flow, explore and discover the magic of the form.  Each day we then found ourselves lost in the possibilities of glass plates, ink, rollers, paintbrushes, Qtips, paper and a large press that gently yielded incredible prints. The days were interrupted with incredible lunches where all of the workshop participants were able to share their stories before heading off into the afternoon sessions. Throughout all of it, Glen was gracious, open and willing to share experiences as a working artist with all of us.

Whether you are a professional artist or a new comer to the arts experience, I would highly recommend that you take this journey of creativity.  It was the highlight of our holiday and an experience we hope to return to again in the near future."
