(Or plan your own dates for your group of 5 to 7 people!)

Join me for this Special Art RetreatArt & Archetypes

based on my book, 'Symbols of the Spirit: A Meditative Journey Through Art'. I will share with you my knowledge of archetypal symbols and wisdom teachings and my artmaking practices to create a workshop filled with art, spirituality and accessing the sacred feminine.

Delve into your interior world, expand your visual vocabulary and create original prints and artist book with personal meaning. According to Carl Jung, A Symbol is the psychological mechanism for transforming energy. We will use symbols as a starting point, an entry into the artmaking process. This will be a week of self-expression, self-discovery, creativity, inspiration, and sharing.

In the Art Workshops, I introduce Monotype Printing, a spontaneous, fluid, intuitive technique that assures everyone success in the studio. I will also guide everyone in creating a unique Accordian Book.  We will combine images and text, journaling and inspirational quotes. The accordian book is a vehicle for telling a story - the story you want to tell, whether its private or for the public. Through Mixed Media Processes such as photo transfer and collage, your book will be visually rich, layering various images and techniques. The artist book is a metaphor for your life unfolding - filled with self-expression and personal imagery. Expect your creativity to flow in unexpected directions!

Each day will begin with a circle, a joining of hearts and the setting of intention for the day. (You are encouraged to dream,, meditate and imagine!) I will introduce symbols as imagery, how the ancients connected to them, and how they can still open a path to the unconscious mind in our modern world.

Come and delve into archetypal symbols that are inspired by nature, relate to the sacred feminine and the spiritual realm. Thomas Carlyle said, In a symbol lies concealment of revelation. Everyone is encouraged to develop their own visual vocabulary and pursue personal symbols for a unique experience. This workshop is suitable for established artists as well as those who would like to explore their creativity.

Experience the magic of San Miguel de Allende, a World Heritage Site named “2018 Best City in the World" by Conde Nast. This unique and charming city offers visual delights around every corner - baroque architecture, contemporary arts, indigenous crafts of textiles, ceramics and more. Explore the history and culture, enjoy fine dining and music, and be swept away by Mexico.

The Retreat will include 2 excursions:

  • Connect to the Ancients: A visit to Cañada de la Virgen, an Otomi archeological / Pyramid site with an archeologist guide. We will see The House of the Thirteen Heavens, The House of the Longest Night and the House of the Wind – with information about the matriarchal culture, their ceremonial spaces and the site’s connections to the celestial bodies – the sun, the moon and Venus.

  • Walking Meditation & Sketching in Nature at El Charco Preserve

TESTIMONIALS

Art in the studio and art outside the studio...

Glen had planned for us to experience not only her charming workplace, but also to be transported to a cultural education in reserving, in advance, a dinner in a local bistro with Mexican musicians, - as well as booking us on a guided tour to the recently excavated Cañada de Virgen, an Otomi archeological site.  What a treat that was!  To be working in a place so intellectually active among the images of Glen’s beautiful symbolic prints was and is a lasting pleasure.

Glen's monotype workshop met my expectations on many levels.  Before I signed up, I knew I would be in "good hands" because I had met Glen previously and had attended her monotype workshops in San Jose, CA.  She is professional, well-prepared and has a wonderful ease about her that is very welcoming.

Now, since I have arrived home, my experience in the workshop and my visits to the pyramids of Canada de la Virgen, the Mercado, and many other lovely places still inspire me.  I remember saying more than once: "I have been transformed!"  It is important to show much gratitude to Glen because we not only received expert instruction, but she was an excellent guide and took us to sights that we would not have experienced on our own.

Thank you, Glen
